      1. I didn’t really think about the monarchy, just seeing it as an obsolete figurehead / for tourists, but reading Twitter the past few days has convinced me: it needs to be abolished.

      Growing up in the UK people are discouraged from thinking too much about institutions / learning about history in case it causes them to realize some difficult truths about colonialism.

      To elaborate on this because I’m joking but also not, in UK education: - I did not have to take geography or history past the age of 14 - not totally sure what was covered before that, WW2? Did a class on st lucia (where colonization was like it was a fun game between 🇬🇧 and 🇫🇷) catehstn/1568539589287059456

        - literally cannot pick out more than like 5-10 countries on a map - almost no Anglo people I know can converse in a 2nd language (my family was aberrant and strange here) - no books from POC were assigned reading in school … probably many more things

          Anyway when you wonder why the British are so fucking oblivious it’s because the system is designed that way. And British people: maybe consider if that system is serving you in 2022 given **gestures** everything.
