There’s a whole book about this called The Richer Sex (I recommend it: https://cate.blog/2014/05/16/book-the-richer-sex/… ) but the tl;dr is that men struggle to be relationships with women who earn more than them. Women struggle less, but some still find that difficult.

Women who date men have far too few healthy models of interdependent relationships. For ambitious women, independence can easily be seen to come at a cost - romantic love. How much of that is a product of society, how much is self-created is up for debate, but the cost is real.

Ironically re:original tweet, feminism is not the cause but the answer to this problem. Freeing women from patriarchal constraints and assumptions frees men from toxic masculinity and allows for het relationships to be more balanced, fair, interdependent rather than codependent.

Think of the “two body problem” in academia - a (het) couple where both work in academia, the woman is _much more likely_ to compromise her career for the relationship. The universities she interviews at are much more likely to expect her to.
