My overwhelming takeaway was that the market is shifting and those who had continued to hire effectively had shifted with it. The greater the shift, the greater the momentum. - Global expanse: US -> EU / LATAM -> APAC - Contracting -> employment where critical mass - Comp++
  16. …in reply to @catehstn
Less quantitively, market is more risk averse. I.e. more people accepting offer and then cancelling (better the devil you know?). Suspect this driving desire for employment versus contracting in some locales. Also taxes for contracting less favourable, reduced upside to risk.

Also learned some things about top of the funnel / advertising / employer brand which harder to make actionable for others. Investment in employer brand does seem to have long term payoff (e.g. visibility of technical direction / employment setup), difficult to measure directly.
  18. …in reply to @catehstn
Can't believe I forgot but time in process another big lever. Many companies have made improvements to make hiring processes faster and more efficient, devs expect to spend less time than previously (although still quite a bit for a place they value highly).

  104. …in reply to @catehstn
I am not thrilled by Irish bureaucracy (passport service has been DDOS’d by British people seeking a better passport and by the pandemic+residency requirements combination). But still. Exciting to think I might actually achieve the long term goal of getting a better passport.
  105. …in reply to @catehstn
Still somewhat mystified by the residency requirements so if anyone actually understands them and wants to explain them to me or can recommend an immigration lawyer that would be awesome.
