The queen, poor woman, a lifetime in this job and maybe the last day in it was meeting with both the unspeakable Boris and the dreadful Truss.

Cannot but feel that the unspeakable Boris' last act of destruction as PM was to kill the queen.

I didn’t really think about the monarchy, just seeing it as an obsolete figurehead / for tourists, but reading Twitter the past few days has convinced me: it needs to be abolished.
-
Growing up in the UK people are discouraged from thinking too much about institutions / learning about history in case it causes them to realize some difficult truths about colonialism.
-
Anyway this illustrates the best of Twitter for me: diverse perspectives that give you something to think about / change your mind.
-
To elaborate on this because I’m joking but also not, in UK education: - I did not have to take geography or history past the age of 14 - not totally sure what was covered before that, WW2? Did a class on st lucia (where colonization was like it was a fun game between 🇬🇧 and 🇫🇷) catehstn/1568539589287059456

- literally cannot pick out more than like 5-10 countries on a map - almost no Anglo people I know can converse in a 2nd language (my family was aberrant and strange here) - no books from POC were assigned reading in school … probably many more things
-
Anyway when you wonder why the British are so fucking oblivious it’s because the system is designed that way. And British people: maybe consider if that system is serving you in 2022 given **gestures** everything.
-
rgarner Does obliviousness change things? Import taxes suggest no 🙈
-
rgarner I don’t really know but my impression is more there was a shift in the ruling class which didn’t necessarily include people with lane and huge houses / death duties etc. but substantially the same system of oppression remains.

Trying to decide whether to go to Dublin and realized why I always fail to make it to Dublin. I start looking at options, get overwhelmed, fail to book anything.
-
This is probably also why during the four years I lived in Canada I only made it to Toronto once.
-
I am so terrible at these kind of decisions it's absurd.
-
The irony that I have time to go to Dublin this week because I went to north Korea. But it was easier for me to plan and get to north Korea than a place a three hour train ride away.
-
ALadyJewel I and a travel agent! He ran my life before the pandemic but then retired during it. But he wouldn't plan this thing typically (too small).
-
ALadyJewel *had
-
ALadyJewel He was very nice but for straightforward things it is was easier to just book myself. But when it's so easy I just can't decide. How long to go for? Where to stay? When to go?

One of the most interesting things I’ve worked on this year is director level hiring. Overhauled the process, reviewed tons of documents (we do a primarily written process), many many interviews (5 this week alone) and I have learned SO MUCH.
-
Unfortunately I haven’t figured out how to articulate these observations in a way that is appropriate to publish. Possibly why there is so little about this out there on the internet 🙈
-
If any of y’all have questions or want to invite me on a podcast to talk about this topic hmu!!
