  6. The Twitter situation makes me so sad, I have got so much value out of this site and it seemed to be one of the better tech companies to work for too. The level of destruction that one powerful egomaniac can enact upon people is invariably horrifying.

PinguicVerse Seemingly it's not legal (everywhere). Lawsuits have already begun, will be cheering for the employees to get 💸

ceejbot I think it’s the usual white dude from a “good family” went to a “good school” and had some win (?) that he turned into a huge fucking Ponzi (?) scheme.

  28. I think I read the effective altruism book _years_ ago and what I took from it was give experts money to improve things and do you career wise. Somehow in years of paying no attention it became a tech bro crypto Ponzi scheme and somehow also a sex thing?! Off the fucking wall.
  29. …in reply to @qwandor
qwandor I did not dig in deeply but apparently the company “leadership” “team” was also basically a polycule.
  30. …in reply to @ireneista
ireneista ichthyos Interesting, I can see how that kind of mindset taken to an extreme can lead to a messed up place. But had not followed along so had no idea it was happening until this ftx situation exploded!

  32. RT chadloder: FYI, this is not how site reliability works. twitter is not a tractor.
  33. RT maybettl: Usually you break it and then buy it rather than vice versa. elonmusk/1593415171149791232?s=46&t=Ft655hMCAKhKn9Srynnepg

  37. I don’t think I am ready to accept the end of twitter. I keep trying to find words to express what this service has given me, and I’m at a loss. The only social media service I like. This has been my community.
  38. …in reply to @catehstn
I have learned so much on here, been so entertained, discovered opportunities, made some of my closest friends, connected with my partner. I will miss it dreadfully.

  44. It’s interesting that so many people seem to think longer hours -> higher velocity. IME the biggest detriment to velocity is people working on the wrong thing, aka the kind of poor decisions people commonly make when they don’t get enough sleep.
  45. …in reply to @catehstn
The second biggest cause of slowness is getting to the “end” and discovering what you’ve built doesn’t work properly, either in reviews or production. AKA the kind of things people build when they are more focused on LOC than the people who will actually use the product.
  46. …in reply to @catehstn
All this talk about “moving faster” is completely meaningless if no one knows what direction they are moving in. Are you trying to create entropy (churn and activity, but no forward motion)? Or velocity (concerted motion in one direction)?
  47. …in reply to @catehstn
You can create entropy using sound bites (and threats), but velocity requires more structured thinking and clear communication.
