OK I have some thoughts because I haven't been amused by all the jokes about Colombian drug lords since I decided to come here.
-
1) Pablo Escobar died 20 years ago and 2) most of the cocaine went to the USA. Why only blame supply? Demand was there.
-
Not like other countries don't have recent history to be deeply ashamed of. Treatment of natives in Canada & Australia. Illegal war US & UK.
-
Or even more recent: UK used anti-terror legislation against Iceland. And USA cops are murdering PoC on the regular without repercussions.
-
Basically finger pointing is bullshit - every country has history not to be proud of.
-
Anyway I felt safer here than in NYC or SF, or on the London Underground, or in the Australian bush, or flying NK national airline.
-
No one offered me drugs. People were nothing but kind. I felt so welcome here. I would come back in a heartbeat.
