There are so many things that annoy me about the word "innovation" used to describe diversity improvements in tech.

Here's one: I read recently that the gender pay gap is BIGGER in tech. Representation of women & black/Hispanic is FAR WORSE than elsewhere.

Women make up more than 50% of the population. It's not "innovating" to think about hiring them.

Turns out periods of war have been great for equal rights. Hiring women then was how they dealt with the loss of male labour in 20s and 40s.

Nearly a hundred years later I read something every week about a tech co "innovating" on this and it's not fucking innovating. That is all.
