                    1. For research purposes I'm finally reading that drivel apologia about lambda conf and this jumped out "Some attendees are amoral atheists".

Like wtf, I'm pretty quiet about being atheist because so many threw out the books and kept the raging misogyny, but what the actual fuck.

Which reminds me of how many times I've heard that cocoa conf is fine w/o a CoC because the founders are so religious - specifically xtian.
              1. …in reply to @catehstn
There's so many problems with that, not least of which is the racism inherent in xtian good and other religions likely terrorist.

But I'm gonna end with this: religion doesn't mean shit when it comes to morality. In any direction.

Still reading this post. IDK why. Really it's an illustration of why "diversity of thought" as a phrase makes me want to stab people.

A more accurate phrase might be "diversity of critical thinking", "diversity of respect for humanity", "diversity of awareness of history".

I cannot with this "there are two sides" to the argument thing. Like a wall has two sides, but maybe one side is covered in nails?
    1. …in reply to @catehstn
Or like "well both sides got hurt", what if someone punched you in the face and then fell over his own shoelaces? You both got hurt. Right?

I got to the end. One more point: the focus is on "safety" and not on "welcoming". It's about plausible deniability rather than inclusivity.

I will tell you that a lot of conferences out there are aiming higher than safety, they are aiming for welcome, for real inclusion.

If safety is enough for you then cool. If you want something more, then there are so many events that would be lucky to have you there.
