Literally every time I write something about not doing women in tech events someone notices me for this and asks me to do a woman event.
-
This makes me so mad because invariably they don't address my reasons for not doing it and want me to pay my own travel and work for free.
-
I have concluded doing these things is at best pointless and at worst harmful. And I try not to do things that are pointless or harmful. So.
-
If a second shift of thankless emotional labour was going to address systematic inequity in tech, we would have seen more progress by now.
-
The reality has actually been a slow slide in the opposite direction. Hence: at best pointless.
-
Then what it does to those who participate in it. A sinkhole of time and emotional energy and for what? Some bullshit corporate feel good?
-
I have so many better things to do than this shit I can't begin to tell you, especially not in 140 characters or less.
-
But anyway if you like my writing on inclusivity in tech you should know it's nothing compared to my actual technical work.
-
But no one talks about that instead we talk about women being women and doing woman events and I am so fucking bored of it I can't tell you.
