What if... You weren't changing the world but building necessary infrastructure?
-
Most tech companies are wiring up houses and buildings rather than inventing electricity. Is this important work? Yes. But there are limits.
-
And yet we talk like each new thing is world changing invention and not a continuation or combination of what existed already.
-
So we pay engineers obscene amounts and cluster them in a tiny (expensive) area and tell them how smart and how special they are.
-
Then we wonder that (white) men operate like gatekeepers to under-indexed folk? And why the most mediocre are the most vicious gatekeepers?
-
We are confused by logical effects of the narcissistic culture we created and tended to like it was a precious flower not a pernicious weed?
-
At the root of this dysfunction is the belief that our work is more important and harder than it actually is.
-
The system is working as intended.
